Photography – Did You Know?

Photography is an absolute wonder. It immerses you in a whole new world where everything is a piece of art. Unfortunately, for many beginners, they think photography is boring and very lonely. That isn’t quite the case as photography can be exciting and full of fun. When you find a great subject you can absolutely enjoy taking photos more and more. However, what do you know about photography? Read on to find a few things any photographer must consider when picking up a camera.

An Artistic Eye Can Be Useful

Did you know having an artistic eye can be more than useful in photography? Photographers often forget that while skill isn’t necessary to become a great photographer, an artistic eye is. You may think anything can be made into a beautiful photo but that isn’t quite the case. Not everything is pretty and not everything photographs well! If you have an artistic eye on the other hand, then you can often find great subjects to photograph. You can be more creative and it will make the photographs more unique and genuine feeling too.

Photography – Did You Know?

Natural Lighting Is A Key Component

Beginners often forget lighting is everything in photography. Without good lighting your photographs can look awful and very sloppy indeed. That is why natural light is a must-have and it must be utilized as much as humanly possible. For instance, whilst snapping a portrait, natural lighting is one very important element of this side of photography. If on the other hand, the lighting is artificial then it can produce less quality results. It’s quite important to remember that as it can often cause the photos to resemble a forced pose. You absolutely must use as much natural lighting as possible.  Here’s a great article on shooting and processing natural light photography.

Location Is Key

Having a focal point is crucial for any photographer and yet this is so often dismissed. You may love the idea of just shooting and snapping away on your camera but setting the photo in the right location is vastly important as well. If the background scenery doesn’t match the quality of the focal point then it can be extremely poor quality. Setting your photograph in a prime location will add so much to your photo. Photography really depends on location and focal points and without these two you can’t get a high quality finish to the photo. This is certainly something thousands forget and the location can often capture the imagination of viewers and photographers alike.

Embrace the Photography World & Follow Your Gut

Have you ever thought about what you feel when picking up a camera? There is a burst of excitement and you want perfection too but sometimes, perfection isn’t needed. You don’t have to have a spectacular view to snap or even a pretty couple to adorn over; sometimes, it’s just your gut. Follow your gut in photography and you are truly going to find a side of art you never knew. Who says you have to stick to simple photography? Why can’t you be different? Photography is a wonderful area and something you are going to enjoy too.

Thoughts On Wedding Photography

Wedding photography can be quite expensive especially considering there are so many other expenses to consider during your wedding.  However, having a photographer who knows what they’re doing is critical to preserving the memories of your special day.  If your photos come back looking terrible, you would be really upset.   That is why as a wedding photographer we ensure all camera lenses are present and correct in order to get those perfect shots.  Sure, you can get some decent shots with an iphone, but having the ability to do wide angle and zoom shots add a dimension you wouldn’t otherwise be able to achieve.

Wide to Telephoto Zoom Lenses

Wide to telephoto zoom lenses are truly one of the simplest lens type any photographer will need and use. Wedding photographers absolutely must have one of these within their photography kit otherwise they are going to run into a lot of trouble taking group photos. These lenses usually come with a focal range length between 20 mm and 70 mm so that should be sufficient enough to capture a large group photograph with ease. You do not compromise quality and there is no distortion. These types of lenses can in fact be perfect for portraits which may come in use for wedding photographers as well.

The Wide Angle Zoom Lens

Wedding photographers absolutely must have a wide angle zoom lens. This is truly a basic element of photography and without it your range can be limited. Having a wide angle zoom lens can allow you to capture better background as well as foreground which are crucial for any photographer. These lenses help to ensure versatility in photographs and are good when taking photos in a smaller room with a tight angle. However, you can snap the entire room and get a great focus whether you want to capture one subject or several. These lenses also help you to get a bigger picture and it’s easy to capture a wonderful story as well.

Wedding Photography Lenses That Every Photographer Can’t Do Without

Prime Lenses for Wedding Photography

These types of lenses are simply camera lenses with a fixed focal length. This means the prime lenses are fixed rather than zoom so they cannot be zoomed in or out. However, these are very important and you can get a wide range of lenses ranging from 17 mm to 70 mm. Prime lenses are said to have improved quality in terms of optics. Wedding photography is delicate so prime lenses are truly important to have. Photographers will find these lenses to be extremely useful.

Here is a really good detailed tutorial on camera lenses.

Understand Photography Is All About Timing

When it comes to taking a beautiful photo, you absolutely have to ensure you time the photos right. Photography is all about timing and if you miss the opportune moment, the perfect photo will be missed. For instance, if you’re taking photos outside then you are working within a limited time schedule with natural lighting so you have to work fast but precise (for example the “golden hour”). However, indoor photography is slightly different but again you have to ensure timing is right especially since natural lighting is a must. You may have to opt for a mix of natural and artificial lighting but that doesn’t mean to say timing doesn’t matter.

Always Be Prepared, Have A Plan & Have Fun.

Being contracted to photograph a wedding can be extremely nerve-wracking but if you are prepared with all the proper equipment and have a strategy going in everything will be just fine!   Be sure to discuss the itinerary of the day with the wedding planner so you know ahout what time each component of the wedding will take place (roughly).  Definitely be sure to take time to eat yourself so you’re mind is clear and you’re at your best.  Most of all have fun with it and your photography will show that.

Benefits of Trick Photography and Special Effects Photography

Photography is truly an art that improves with age. You do not need any special skills and anyone can take it up whether they want a new hobby or a new career. There are many great tricks and special effects that can be utilized with photography to make it more interesting.  So, are there any additional benefits to come from special effects and photo trickery?

Any Photographer Can Use Special Effects

The use of special effects doesn’t just have to be utilized by a professional photographer. Anyone can learn to use these amazing tricks and it doesn’t actually take too long to master either. Beginners often stick with the basics because they think that is only what they’re capable of but, in reality, they can open the door to a whole new world. Of course, photographers would find it to their advantage if they knew the basics of photography such as film and shutter speed but once they do, learning the advanced stuff can be simple.

Benefits of Trick Photography and Special Effects Photographs

Bringing Your Personal and Unique Qualities to Your Photographs

Another benefit of opting for special effects and trick photography has to be how unique the photographs can become. Let’s say you took a photo of a stunning piece of landscape but there was something lacking from it; what could you do to change it? Well, special effects and trick photography can help. These will allow you to add your personality into the photos as well as make them very unique as well.

Become Creative with Your Photographs

Boring photos aren’t what any photographer wants but, unfortunately, some inexperienced and even some experienced photographers find they end up with these. The trouble is that photographing regular or everyday subjects can be good but very repetitive which is why trick photography is greatly used. With this, you can actually unleash your creativity and become more creative in the ways in which others see your photos. This is really very important and in photography simple changes can make all the difference. With special effects in post processing, you can make your photographs very creative such as adding various filters.  Some purists would be appalled at this behavior, but they’re increasing popular.  Some popular post production styles are HDR, photo to painting and vintage.  It’s Ok to explore these styles and if you’re shooting for a client maybe give them a few options to choose from.  This is what helps to set you apart from the competition.

Here is an example of HDR (high dynamic range) photography with lots of contrast and color saturation.

You Don’t Have To Spend a Fortune on Equipment

Let’s be honest. Photographers just starting out in the photography world often believe they shouldn’t look for anything but a basic camera and the basic equipment. The reason most believe this is due to cost.  Thousands of beginners are worried buying a great camera and using special effects and trick photography will cost far too much but in reality that isn’t the case. You don’t need fancy pieces of equipment and some of the tricks can be done with simple and very inexpensive software too. This is something you should remember as there is no real need to spend big.
